Car Insurance

Car insurance is required by law, if you wish to drive on UK roads your car must be taxed and the driver must have car insurance. There are 3 main types of car insurance, these are; Third party, Third party fire and theft, and Fully comprehensive car insurance.

Each of these different types of car insurance have different costs involved with them.

Third party is the cheapest type of insurance however you are normally only coverer ed for any damages you cause to cause to another person or their vehicle.

Third party, fire and theft is middle of the range out of the three types of car insurance. Including the same cover as third party car insurance but additionally covering your car if it is stolen or damaged/destroyed by a fire.

The most expensive type of car insurance is fully comprehensive. This type insures your car for everything, and often has additional benefits such as personal injury cover and any potential legal costs.

There are hundreds of different company's you can obtain car insurance from, each with varying costs and features. Generally you will find each company will offer different prices depending on not only the type of car insurance you go for but the level of excess there is on your policy.

Excess is an additional charge you need to pay in order to make a claim with your car insurance policy. For example if you needed to claim for £5,000 worth of damage would need to pay the first £200 of the damage, meaning you would only receive £4,800 for your car insurance company.

Normally excesses are either £500, £250, £100, £50 or sometimes there would be no excess to pay if you needed to make a claim. Each company will have different policy's so make sure you read all of the documentation you are provided with and specifically your policy agreement before signing anything.
